CLAYTON, North Carolina – The Clayton Rugby Football Club has made the tough decision to cancel their spring in-house youth flag rugby program. The program was originally scheduled to kick off at the end of March, but was placed on hold due to the mass gathering ban caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Without any expected end date for the ban, the club is moving forward with refunds for all of the players that were registered for the program. Parents and guardians should expect to see the refunds by the end of the week.
As a replacement, the club is going to roll out a fall program, which they haven’t offered in almost three years. The fall program will be of a similar nature with sessions on Wednesday nights and some Saturday mornings playing before the club’s senior teams.
To help fill the gaps during the down time, Clayton RFC youth coaches are preparing some short video sessions with skills and games that youth players can complete at home. These will be made available on the club’s YouTube page and on the club website. The club has also put together a Youth Activity Packet with coloring and trivia activities. The videos and activity packet are available for all to use, not just registered members.
“We hate to cancel the spring program and held off as long as we could,” says club President Ted Hardy. “We couldn’t continue to draw things out and summer is quickly approaching. We’re looking forward to getting back to rugby and hope to see everyone this fall.”
The Clayton Rugby Football Club continues to wish everyone the very best during these trying times. If anyone is in need of assistance or help, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the club at [email protected] with requests. The club will do everything possible to help.
