The Clayton Rugby Football Club, in partnership with Clayton Youth Rugby, is proud to announce the hosting of a USA Rugby Level 1 Referee Course on Sunday February 22, 2026, in the banquet room at Raleigh Brewing JoCo. This all-day course represents another important step in the club’s ongoing commitment to growing the sport of rugby in Johnston County and throughout the region.
As rugby continues to expand at both the youth and senior levels, the need for knowledgeable, confident match officials grows alongside it. The Clayton RFC has set an internal goal of certifying more referees from within its own membership in the coming years. This allows the club to support sustainable growth, improve match quality, and ensure the game is played safely and fairly at all levels.
The Level 1 Referee Course provides an introduction to officiating in a safe, competent, and enjoyable way. It is designed for individuals who wish to become match officials in local age-grade competitions and senior rugby. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to demonstrate basic officiating skills grounded in appropriate theoretical knowledge, preparation, and planning, and will be equipped to officiate aspects of the game in a modified context.
Whether you are a current or former player, coach, parent, or rugby supporter looking to give back to the game, refereeing offers a meaningful way to stay involved while directly supporting the growth of rugby in our community.
Anyone interested in registering for the course should log in to their Rugby Xplorer account and navigate to the Learner Dashboard to complete registration.
Clayton RFC and Clayton Youth Rugby look forward to welcoming a new group of officials ready to help grow the game.
