CLAYTON, North Carolina – The Wombat’s are back! The Clayton Rugby Football Club’s in-house flag rugby program is preparing for their Spring 2022 season. The program is scheduled to start on April 19th and run through June 7. Practices and games are every Tuesday night starting at 6:30pm. Girls and Boys, ages 4-10, are encouraged to join in on the fun. This spring, the club aims to expanded the groups to meet the needs of our players. As with past programs, the focus is on developing the FUNdamental skills of rugby through movement-based activities.
Our 8-10 year old age group is going to see some changes as intro to tackle is going to be introduced to prepare players to move onto the Clayton Youth Rugby Club tackle age groups in the future. Players will be introduced to the basics of contact and tackling in a safe manner. There will not be any player on player contact. Instruction will be delivered with the use of tackle bags under coaching supervision. Even with this new addition, the Clayton RFC will continue to maintain their focus on flag rugby. The addition of pre-tackle is to prepare our Wombats for the next transition in their playing careers which is tackle rugby.
