CLAYTON, North Carolina – There hasn’t been a lot to get excited about over the past year, so the Clayton Rugby Football Club is beyond pleased to announce the date for the 2021 CottonTown 7s Rugby Festival. Since it’s founding in 2016, the tournament has become one of the top 7s events on the summer calendar in the southeast. As with every other rugby event, the 2020 tournament was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic. Recent downward trends in COVID cases has given the club the confidence needed to proceed with planning for the 2021 event.
The CottonTown 7s is scheduled for Saturday July 10, 2021 at East Clayton Community Park. There are still some concerns about the number of bystanders and participants that will be allowed. As such, the club is only planning on hosting Men’s and Women’s divisions in 2021 and may limit the number of registered teams. Past tournaments have seen 30+ teams and hundreds of fans on site for CottonTown.
The club’s tournament committee is hard at work planning for a fantastic, and safe, event in July. Registration details are being finalized and will be published in the next couple of weeks. Registrations are on a first-come first served basis. Any teams not getting in will be placed on a waiting list until we can determine the number of people allowed in attendance.
The Clayton Rugby Football Club anxiously awaits the return of rugby and hopes to see our many friends and fellow clubs this summer!
