Clayton RFC Fall Walking and Touch Rugby Sessions

Clayton Rugby Football Club is opening the gates this fall and inviting the community to come out and experience rugby without the tackles!

The club is hosting a series of Walking & Touch Rugby sessions at the Johnston County Rugby Park, with one session each month in September, October and November. The events are open to men, women and youth of all experience levels. You do not have to be a member of Clayton RFC to participate.

We welcome anyone interested in staying active, learning more about rugby, or just looking for a fun, social group of people to hang out with.

The fall dates are:

Saturday, September 12
Saturday, October 17
Saturday, November 14

Each session runs from 10:00am until noon, beginning with Walking Rugby at 10:00am followed by Touch Rugby at 11:00am. Afterward, Clayton RFC will provide hot dogs for everyone who comes out to play.

Our goal is simple: provide another way for people in our community to stay active and get involved in rugby.

Rugby Without the Tackles

Rugby has a reputation as a physical sport and it certainly can be. However, there are multiple entry points into the sport giving interested players options that fit their goals, skill level, and available time.

Walking Rugby slows the game down and focuses on passing, movement, teamwork and having fun. The game is played exactly how it sounds. It is a modified version of rugby played at a walking pace. This is great for players of all abilities and ages. It also allows people with mobility issues to still be involved.

Touch Rugby picks up the pace while maintaining the same non-contact format, making both versions great introductions to the sport.

Whether you’re completely new to rugby, a former player who wants to get back onto the pitch, a parent who has watched from the sidelines wanting to try rugby, or someone simply looking for a fun way to stay active, you’re welcome to join us.

No rugby experience is necessary. You don’t need to commit to a season. You don’t even need to be a Clayton RFC member. Just come out and give rugby a try!

Calling All Women Interested in Rugby

Clayton RFC especially encourages women and girls interested in trying rugby to join us this fall.

The club continues to work on growing opportunities for women’s rugby in Johnston County, and these Saturday sessions provide an easy way to meet other players, learn the game and become part of the Clayton RFC community without immediately jumping into full contact rugby.

We’re hoping to use these sessions to continue building interest around the Clayton RFC Women’s side and connect with more women in the area who may be interested in playing.

There Is a Place for You in Rugby

Clayton RFC’s mission is to enrich the lives of others through the sport of rugby. We aim to provide opportunities for people throughout our community to experience the sport in a way that works for them.

We believe that there are a lot of ways to play a role in our rugby community whether as a player, volunteer, or supporter. There is more than one way to play rugby and there are many ways to be part of the Clayton RFC.

Come out this fall, give rugby a try, hang out with us afterward, and become a part of the Clayton RFC community.
