Clayton Releases Fall Schedule

CLAYTON, NC – The Clayton Rugby Football Club is excited to announce their Fall 2015 schedule. The club’s schedule includes six scheduled matches against other clubs, at least two B-Side matches, an inter-squad scrimmage, and an Old Boys Game. The club’s Fall schedule culminates in the 1st Annual Bootlegger 10s Tournament.

The major change in the club’s schedule this season is the Bootleggers inclusion in the newly launched Carolinas Division IV League. The jump into league play is a sign of the progress the club has made in the past year. The club intends to use the D4 competition as the jumping off point for the introduction of a competitive team to go along with their social and Old Boys teams.

“Getting into league play is important for the club as it shows our players and new recruits that we are serious about where the club is headed,” said Club President Ted Hardy. “We have every intention to move this group up the ranks in the CGU and build a solid foundation for when our youth players start to graduate to the club level. At the same time, we have no intention to forget about our Old Boys and Social players.”

Future plans include moving the competitive team up to Division III and keeping the Division IV side active as a developmental side for the players that are new to the club, players that don’t want to play in D3, and Old Boys.

“It is important as we grow, that we never forget where we started,” added Hardy. “Providing opportunities for all of our players regardless of age or skill level will remain one of the top priorities of the club.”

The Bootleggers’ D4 opponents include Southern Pines D4, Duke Grad, Charlotte RFC D4, Cherry Point, and the Raleigh Old Boys. Of those clubs, the Bootleggers have already played all but Charlotte RFC. Most of which have been very competitive matches. Clayton expects to be in the hunt for the Carolinas D4 title.

“We expect to have a lot of fun this Fall,” finished Hardy. “We have a good, competitive schedule and we are really looking forward to closing out the season by hosting our first tournament.”

The Clayton RFC opens up their Fall schedule on September 12 at Southern Pines. The club practices every Tuesday and Thursday night at East Clayton Community Park. If you are interested in learning more or joining the team, please contact the club via email at [email protected]
