CLAYTON, NC – The Clayton Rugby Football Club is excited to announce the launch of the Bootlegger 10s Tournament. The tournament is set to be played at the end of the Fall at East Clayton Community Park in Clayton, North Carolina.
“We were looking for something fun to do at the end of the Fall season,” said Club President Ted Hardy. “It’s a long year when you count in Spring, Summer 7s, and then the Fall matrix. We want to offer teams a fun alternative to finish out their season.”
The tournament, set to be played Saturday November 21, 2015, is going to be played as a 10s tournament which is a 10 on 10 variation of traditional 15 on 15 Rugby Union. For the first edition of the Bootlegger 10s, tournament organizers are limiting the number of teams to 16, divided into Men and Women’s brackets. Clayton RFC is looking at the possibility of playing at least one youth and/or High School exhibition match during an intermission period at the tournament.
The club plans to offer the tournament as an annual function with plans to grow the tournament to include more teams and other age groups.
The tournament will make use of East Clayton Community Park, the home field for the Clayton Copperheads Youth Rugby and Clayton Bootleggers Men’s teams. The facility, opened just a few years ago, has full restroom facilities, a pavilion, space for three full rugby fields, one youth sized pitch, and plenty of parking. The Town of Clayton Parks & Recreation Department has graciously allowed the club use of the facilities for the tournament.
There will be food and concessions available at the facility throughout the day. Sponsor and vendor tents will also be on site.
Details on registration will be available in the coming weeks.
