Clayton, NC — The legend is back! The Clayton Rugby Football Club is proud to announce the return of the Blackbeard Beach 7s, a pirate-themed summer rugby tournament set for August 8, 2026 on Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. After an eight year hiatus, this fan favorite event is back and ready to reestablish itself as one of the most unique and social rugby experiences in the region.
Featuring both Men’s and Women’s divisions, Blackbeard Beach 7s invites clubs from across the Southeast and beyond to trade in the traditional pitch for a day of fast paced beach rugby, music, and community celebration.
But this isn’t just a tournament, it’s a full weekend experience.
Teams arriving early can kick things off on Friday night with a pre-tournament social hosted by Tightlines Brewing, setting the tone for the weekend.
Following a full day of rugby on Saturday, players and supporters will head to the official post-tournament social at Rock the Docks, where the energy of the day carries into the night.
From first kickoff to last call, Blackbeard Beach 7s is designed to capture what makes grassroots rugby special—the people.
Blackbeard Beach 7s sets itself apart from traditional tournaments by embracing laid back beach vibes in a pirate themed atmosphere. Costumes are encouraged, sideline energy in abundance, and there is a format that prioritizes fun without sacrificing competition.
“Events like this are about more than results,” said Clayton RFC President Peter Nalley. “They’re about bringing people together, creating memories, and showcasing the best parts of rugby culture.”
Registration for both men’s and women’s teams opens May 1st. Past versions of the tournament filled up quickly. With strong interest expected and limited spots available, clubs are encouraged to secure their place early.
