The Clayton Rugby Football Club had their first official practice this past weekend at the East Clayton Community Park. The first practice was a huge success with 14 players turning out (and a handful that were not in attendance). The mix of players ranged from long time rugby veterans to players that are brand new to the sport of rugby. The new players picked up the game quickly and showed a lot of promise and the vets showed leadership skills.
The initial turnout was better than expected and gives club leadership full confidence that the club will not only be fielding a team in summer tournaments, but will be able to play a full Fall schedule. The scheduling of a full Fall schedule is currently in the works.
The club’s summer schedule is also in the works. We are waiting on the confirmation of dates on a couple more tournaments before it is released. The club expects their first tournament to be the State Games of North Carolina on June 28th in Charlotte.
There is still an outside chance that the club may schedule a game before the end of the Spring. Stay tuned as details will be made known as things progress.
