The club is currently taking a look at revamping the tournament format and date among other changes. A decision on the future of the tournament should be made by spring 2023.
Founded in 2016, the CottonTown 7s Rugby Festival is an annual 7s tournament hosted every July by the Clayton Rugby Football Club. The tournament has grown quickly into one of the largest summer 7s events in the Carolinas. After a year off in 2020 due to COVID, we bounced back strong in 2021 with 26 teams, across three divisions, at the CottonTown 7s.
The name of the tournament is pulled from local history. During the early 1900’s Clayton was home to a thriving cotton market and many old cotton mills can be found around town today. The tournament name is also a nod to the CottonTown Lager, a popular beer made locally at Deep River Brewing Company, a major sponsor of the Clayton RFC.
