Bootleggers Win Big in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC – On a rainy Fall afternoon in Charlotte, the Clayton Bootleggers battled through rain and mud to come away with a 90-0 lopsided win over the Charlotte Royals. The match was the first meeting in 15s between the two sides after meeting twice previously at 7s tournaments.

The Bootleggers hit the ground running after the long road trip and scored tries in batches. Rookies Matt Temesy, Matt Kozcanski, and Derek Braun each scored their first career tries for the club. Temesy was making his rugby debut for the Bootleggers and put in a Man of the Match performance from inside center. Clayton scored a total of 14 tries on the day as they were in possession of the ball for most of the match and continuously kept pressure on the Royals.

Scrumhalf Simon Potter scored 25 points for the Bootleggers on a try and 10 conversions.

After having a couple bye weeks, the Bootleggers were rusty despite the lopsided scoreline. With the weather, play was very sloppy and scrappy at times. The one bright light was the fact that Clayton limited their turnovers in less than ideal playing conditions.
